В соответствии с законодательством может заранее выдаваться юридическому или физическому лицу для покрытия предстоящих расходов, связанных с оплатой товарно-материальных ценностей, намеченных к выполнению работ и услуг, фрахта, командировок, а также для денежных выплат рабочим и служащим в счет заработной платы. Денежные средства, выданные в виде аванса «под отчет», должны расходоваться строго по назначению, что проверяется бухгалтерией предприятия. В хозяйственном обороте представляет собой одну из форм взаимного кредитования предприятий.
